May: GM Mixer, Pacific Rim Street Festival

Part of our mission as a nonprofit is to reach out to the community. Well, here’s two chances in May!

Our chapter has two upcoming events and we’d like you to participate and get involved. One is a free mixer sponsored by GM to help promote the AAJA convention in Detroit. GM is raffling off two convention registrations worth up to $300! You’ll be able to check out a new line up of vehicles and meet Bay Area AAJA chapter members. March 1 – Sacramento Area Media Mixer

Join us for the Sacramento Area Media Mixer – a chance for local journalists to network, unwind and meet other journalists.

The Asian American Journalists Association, Capital Public Radio, Patch.com and the Sacramento Press Club are co-hosting this free event. Appetizers will be served but drinks are on you. It’s a chance for journalists working in print, broadcast and online mediums to meet, network and get to know some …of the people they may only see at press conferences or on television.
Tuesday, March 1

5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Cafeteria 15L – 1116 15th St., Sacramento. In case of rain event will be moved next door to the Park Ultra Lounge.

June 12 – Computer-Assisted Reporting Workshop

How are top journalists using the Internet to gather news and stay ahead of the competition? Want to improve your reporting with computer-assisted reporting?

Join us Saturday, June 12, for a two-hour professional workshop focused on web reporting led by Associated Press reporter and AAJA Sacramento co-president Judy Lin. She’ll walk you through some handy sites containing phone directories, search engines and archived Web pages. She’ll point out places to find data, how to interpret it, and answer your questions.

This event is free but limited to 15 current AAJA members. It’s geared toward professional members, but we welcome student members as well. It is designed to be an intimate, hands-on class so bring your laptops!

Please RSVP to Judy at [email protected]. Space is on a first come, first serve basis.
