Bobby Caina Calvan, a Sacramento Bee staff writer and AAJA Sacramento’s representative to the AAJA National Advisory Board, has returned from a three-month leave from The Bee. Six of those weeks were spent in the Baghdad bureau of McClatchy Newspapers, The Bee’s parent company.

AAJA Sacramento welcomes Judy Lin, new co-chapter President
After three years as AAJA Sacramento chapter president, Sandy Louey is switching gears. She’ll now serve as chapter secretary. Judy Lin and Suzanne Phan will serve as chapter co-presidents for 2008.
AAJA Sacramento awards $3,000 in scholarships to two local students
Donna Lee and Deur Julie Tcha were selected for AAJA Sacramento scholarships this year.
Tcha, a senior at California State University, Sacramento majoring in government journalism, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship. She is an intern at CBS13 and plans to intern in the Office of Assemblymember Dave Jones this fall.
Lee, who will be a graduate student at Columbia this fall, was given a $2,000 scholarship. She is currently interning as an associate producer for ‘Insight’ on Capital Public Radio. Lee interned at The Statesman-Journal in Salem, Ore. as part of the Chips Quinn Scholar program and at the Sacramento News & Review. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in molecular and cell biology from the University of California at Berkeley.
